August quote

“When you photograph people in colour you photograph their clothes. But when you photograph people in Black and White you photograph their souls” Ted Grant

This quote is really interesting - I have never thought about people in photos in that way. In most cases I prefer colour photos to black and white ones and I don't have any profound reasons for that. But it's a double challenge to take a good portrait in black and white.
I played a bit with a photo of me taken not long ago and I'm sure it doesn't show my soul or anything special - it was just fun to add a few effects. It shows me very relaxed though and that's precious right now as I am starting a very busy period of the year.
Have a lovely weekend,

Nostalgia - how things change

I meant to blog every day but life got in the way again. It was my last week of a long holiday and I am very grateful for that but that doesn't mean that I wouldn't like a few additional weeks...
How do things change? My mother was a stay at home mother all her life as most of her generation but now the great majority of mothers work. Sometimes my family depends more  on my income than on my husband's as he is self employed. That was unthinkable forty some years ago.
As for my jobs I belong very much to the 20th century - meaning that I've had the one and same job for more than twenty years just in three different schools. So I can't really talk about my best job. I like it and I think it is not that special but very exhausting.
My dream job would be to become a full time materials writer or teacher trainer. But I know very well that this is really just a dream.
The worst job? It wasn't a real job but some weeks we had to work in different factories in every year of our secondary school (luckily that doesn't exist any longer - it was an experiment in 1980s). In my first year I worked in a factory that made some parts connected with electricity in cars. My task was to cut a thousand 50 centimetre wires a day. It was awful! In my second year I worked in a nearby uranium mine and I had literally nothing - NOTHING -  to do for 8 hours every day. I thought I would die of boredom.
So I really have no nostalgia for my past also because the first few years of teaching are so very hard - there are so many things to learn and do. I enjoy it much more now than let's say ten years ago.
i hope you are all well and wish a lovely weekend.

Irrelevant and photos for last week

I always have many craft projects going on - at least in my head - and different messy corners in the house and garden that I want to tidy just stay that way. I've been talking about sorting all our shoes for a year but ... I don't get to it. There is always a book to read, a card to make, some blogs to read, Pinterest to check....and tasks that are not urgent just get postponed. My house will probably never be neat and clean - but I love my life and that's what matters most, everything else is irrelevant. Point made!
I'm catching up with the prompts for last week (now I know why I prefer the weekly challenge to the daily one - a lot!):

 August kitchen view

August neighbourhood view + my shadow

drink - water and sometimes elderberry juice

no more stones brought from the seaside - just these souvenirs

plenty of books for sweet things to bake
The book I  read last week - loved it!

Have a wonderful week!

Time and green

How much time is twenty years? This pile of photos! My daughter is 20 next week and I've sorted our family photos so that she can get her own. That's how I used my morning today.

I've got mixed feelings as to those 20 years - they passed so quickly and I was so busy most of the time but on the other hand it is a long period if you look how much she's had to learn from autumn 1993 when she was a baby in my lap to the young student she is today.

In spite of the heat my garden is lovely green and I am very proud of my "cottage garden" flowers.

Have a (n)ice day,

August view

Not much has changed in my view so I included part of my flowers which are doing quite well in spite of the heat wave. The photo is a bit blurred but I think it could pass as the image of the heat. I love the peak of summer and hot weather but it's also true that I don't have to drive anywhere or work or be outside.

Our pear tree is also doing well - with the exception of the branches that have broken because of the weight of the fruit. There is still plenty left.

Have a wonderful week!
